Liz’s freelance commissions have included liturgy, and poetry might be described as her first writing language. It was this medium she discovered her love for crafting language through as a child, falling in love with words for their musicality as much as their meaning. And it is this medium she most frequently returns to for personal expression.
Inspired by The Wildlife Trusts’ #30DaysWild initiative – which encourages people to engage with the outdoors every day in June – she recently began to capture her daily encounters with nature in and around her home in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire, through a series of Wild Word Sketches.
She enjoyed the first month so much she decided to carry on… You can follow her journey through the year here.
Quickly responding to the timbre of each moment she’s evoking for others, the tone and form of her sketches range from playful to profound, and free verse to rhyming couplets.
